Sardinia 2026 – Update – Porto Ottiolu to Calla Ganone

On arrival in Sardinia, the lads got shafted by the van hire company. They said the van had been double-booked and there was nothing they could do!

They suggested we try the van hire company next door, and lo and behold, they had one, a 9 seater available at double the price of the original booking!!

A total scam obviously, but we had no choice, the van had a few bumps and bruises so we documented them but they said don’t worry as you are fully covered…

Day 1 – Sunday 7th June

Notes on the ride from Coxy –

“Today we rode from Porto Ottiolu to Calla Ganone, 52 miles mostly along the coast with a couple of climbs towards the end. The only points of interest today were a debate over the length of John’s socks, whether they were within the UCI guidelines ? And Spena had a mishap when ordering Coffee this morning, he asked for a Latte and waitress brought back a glass of milk much to our amusement

Just as well the van is fully covered for everything as Dabsy hit a fence this afternoon which left a black scrape the full length of the passenger side of the van ”

So, it’s not just me who has accidents in the van!!!

Day 2 – Monday 8th June

Notes on the ride from Coxy –

“Today we did a loop from Calla Gonone around the hills and quiet roads to Orgosolo then back to Calla Gonone.

The day didn’t start well for John, his rear mech hanger fell off as it was only held on with one tiny bolt, he lost the other bolt in Slovenia so he’s done well to get this far with no trouble, how I’ll never know So he’s in the van and has been put on camera duty.

The hills around Orgosolo are awesome with hardly any traffic, the heat made things difficult as the day went on and it turned out another tough day, the four and a half mile climb straight out of town didn’t help and we have got to do it again in the morning

No dramas today but we have an 80 miles coast-to-coast to ride tomorrow from Calla Gonone to Bosa. I suspect the lads will be having a quiet night John has found a bike shop in town and is hoping to ride tomorrow ”

Oh and BTW, Dabsy pranged the van again!!! This lad’s going for the record
