Comment: First day of the route. Through the mountains to Burguete. Shown on the map as Auritz which is the Basque translation. Ernest Hemingway stayed here in the 1920s.
The piano in the Hotel Burgette still bears Hemingway’s signature. Known locally as Auritz, Burgette is a small traditional town with a central square with several bars and cafes for refreshment after the long climb over the Pyrenees
