Saint Jean Pied de Port is the ancient medieval capital of the Basque region. At the foot of the Pyrenees, Saint Jean is an attractive small town with a population of 1500. The Citadel is next to the river on the Rue de Citadelle and on the bridge you can look down upon the trout that you will be feasting on that evening.

There are many bars, hotels and restaurants all specialising in local Basque delicacies.
