This site is the home of a group of Teessiders who like to get out and about on our bikes at weekends or whenever possible.
As well as doing regular trips around North Yorkshire we occasionally venture further afield and tackle much longer routes sometimes over several days or even weeks.
At the end of June 2011 we headed for the South of France for this year’s bike trek, Le Tour 2011.
We tackled two of the peaks made famous via the Tour de France, Mont Ventoux and the Col Du Tourmalet, in between travelling along the Canal du Midi.
In June 2010 we tackled the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrim route starting in Saint Jean Pied de Port , France and finishing in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, a distance of nearly 900 km.
On an annual basis we also tackle the Coast to Coast route and that’s where our name ‘Coastbusters’ comes from.
The Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route which runs across the North of England from the Cumbrian coast to Sunderland, Tynemouth or Saltburn on the North Sea coast.

On August 19th 2011 we rode the Coast to Coast from Walney Island, via Kendal and Barnard Castle and finishing up in Saltburn.
On August 20th 2010 we rode the Coast to Coast from Whitehaven to South Shields.

After an uneventful trip by van and coach from Middlesbrough we arrived at Walney Island at around 10.00am. The weather was quite cloudy and chilly at the start but it picked up during the day.

Today is the pinnacle of Le Tour. Through the Col Du Tourmalet from Bagneres to Lourdes over the highest road in the Pyrenees.
On up to La Mongie, a famous ski resort but Coxy, Steve K and Spenna have already passed this point so I need to get to the summit.
On to the top and that lunar landscape. It’s a killer, you come out of the wooded area and then get clear view of the summit weather station. It looks deceptively close but the road winds and winds.

The final day and the weather is great again. Hot and sunny, perfect for the lads journey from Hexham and along the banks of the Tyne through Newcastle to North Shields. From there it’s a short hop over on the ferry to South Shields and the finish line.
